About This Picture...
I was the camp cook for this trip,
which meant spending about an hour per meal
getting the stove going and preparing the food.
Of course, all the food is hidden
in the bear canisters for protection, so at each
food break I needed to open each canister, pull out all the provisions, until I
found
all the raw materials and supplies necessary for that particular feast.
Although we brought along our
trusty MSR ultra-lite stove, it was just for
use at the higher elevations where fires are prohibited due to the fragile
ecosystems above the timber line.
On this trip, we tested out a new
Sierra Stove, which uses a AA battery to power
a little fan that turns the small wood-burning can into a blast furnace.
But, it took
a lot of small twigs to make it work, and required constant stoking.
In this picture, our two traveling
companions assist me in gathering wood for the
little stove and in finding the supplies for dinner.
