About This Picture...
Here's a picture of the members of
our expedition for this year,
myself included, all standing at high point of our
hike along the
John Muir Trail - the summit of Donahue Pass
at eleven thousand
two hundred feet.
The camera is on timer so we could
all get in the shot, and is facing
the next segment of our hike which leads down
the mountain into a
gorgeous moraine valley that is so striking it almost hurts
to look at it.
I had carried the last can of
Boddington Beer all the way to the summit
and was chilling it in the alpine pond
at the top. As soon as this
picture was taken, we popped open the can, and
passed it around in celebration,
taking turns slurping all the foam that came
out at this high altitude,
trying to pass it from person to person before we
lost any of the precious liquid!
Though there were still five more
days on the trail ahead of us,
from this point forward we felt as if we had
already achieved our goal.
The rest, after all, was (mostly) downhill...
...until next year!
