About This Picture...
You can see Lyell Canyon behind me
in the middle of the frame.
We took a leisurely two days to cross the
seven mile Lyell Canyon
since we wanted more of a sight seeing experience this
time than
our first trip up and over Donahue Pass two years ago.
Our packs are still pretty heavy at
this early point in the hike -
about thirty five pounds each. Though we
use ultra-lite gear
(my Go-Lite pack is just over two pounds, as is my Sub Kilo
15 degree sleeping bag and my Big Agnes air core sleeping pad)
the vast about of
food we need for 8 days in the back country
plus the weight of the bear
canisters in which we carry it keeps
the weight up, especially at the beginning
of the hike.
But, as the days go by, we lose of ten pound each in food
weight
and the packs get down to below twenty five pounds by the end of the
trek.
